The two website platforms I recommend

If you’ve been working through my guide:   Things to consider before building your next website, (if you haven’t, I highly recommend you download it here) you’ll have come across the section where I talk about the importance of planning for the kind of website and business you want in the future.

Essentially I want you to choose a website platform with longevity in mind.

Website builds are a significant investment in your business. It’s definitely not a process you want to repeat in a couple of years simply because the platform you chose doesn’t have the functionality your business needs.

I recommend two platforms, depending on your needs:

Rocketspark is a fantastic New Zealand-based website platform with drag and drop design capability. It’s great for service-based businesses and ecommerce stores that have relatively straightforward sales and delivery needs.

It’s easy to use and manage, and has a great customer service team you can call. You can actually speak to someone! It also connects with many third party integrations, like Xero and Mailchimp.

Some great examples of businesses I’ve built websites for on the Rocketspark platform are Rollickin Gelato, Chaplin Design, Awaroa Winery, and Kit Markin Homes.

The second platform I recommend is Shopify. It’s world-leading e-commerce technology with advanced reporting and customer data features. It particularly suits ecommerce stores that need more complex selling and delivery features, such as:

Gifts with purchase.
  • Dynamic pricing.
  • Customer wishlists.
  • Build your own products.
  • Product specific delivery and/or pick up options.
  • The ability to change currencies.
It’s a platform that can be customised to do just about anything to suit the needs of your individual business.
To see some examples of the kind of businesses that use Shopify, take a look at the websites I built for Keter NZSimon Myers PhotographyThe Florist, and The Tea Curator.

All these websites will give you a feel for the type of functionality each has, how they can be customised, and will give you food for thought when considering what features you may need for your website.

Until next time,
